TURKSTAT Signed a Rolling Work Plan with UNICEF

TurkStat has been carrying on its studies intensely to meet statistical data demands in a more comprehensive and timely manner and ensure that the statistics are produced in line with the international methodologies and standards and presented in proper platforms. Statistics produced in conformity with the users' needs is of a great importance, as that is one of the essential elements of decision-making processes based on evidence. Accordingly, TurkStat has been actively involved and collaborates with leading organizations such as the United Nations (UN), World Bank (WB), the Statistical Office of the European Union (EUROSTAT) at bilateral and multilateral levels with a view to effectively assess and meet today's rapidly changing information demands.

Furthermore, TurkStat aims at producing more comprehensive data and presenting it in more user-friendly platforms to different audience by strengthening infrastructure of Turkish Statistical System.

In line with this perspective, TurkStat and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Turkey Country Office have signed a Rolling Working Plan (RWP) aiming at expanded data and statistics, its access and use for Monitoring of the situation of Children in Turkey. This collaboration followed by singing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2019. This well-established cooperation is of great importance in terms of drawing the frame that lays out the activities concerning child-related statistics and their access and use. RWP is also aligned with the Turkey’s 11th Development Plan, Sustainable Development Goals and also Convention on the Rights of Child, contributing to the significant aims of these initiatives.

UNICEF, as the United Nations institution is mandated to facilitate the full implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in industrialized and developing countries including generation of evidence for inclusive and equitable decisions related with children. In this context, UNICEF has shown its interest to cooperate with TurkStat in producing more comprehensive statistics on children and child well-being, presenting them effectively, increasing statistical literacy, and within the framework of this cooperation the RWP has been signed by the parties.

The aim of the RWP is to expand and enhance the quality of data, information and support towards children's rights. The Plan also aims to conduct studies together with TurkStat, UNICEF and other stakeholder institutions to gain access for the comprehensive data needed for monitoring and reporting the situation of children and, to use them effectively until the end of 2020.

With UNICEF’s new country cycle covering 2021-2025, TurkStat and UNICEF are planning to continue collaboration by signing a new RWP for 2 years in the first quarter of 2021.

Respectfully announced to the public.
