Turkish Statistical Institute has long been carrying on implementing the cooperation works with international actors on the basis of its perspective being one of the leading institutions of today’s information society and reflecting the situation of social and economic life with a view to produce statistical data in a more comprehensive and timely manner, meet statistical needs arising from unprecedented developments and information requests coming from the users, respond effectively to international demands for monitoring and reporting.
Within this framework, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between TurkStat and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on 1 August 2019 and accordingly, cooperation between the two institutions has been established in statistics on children in line with the priorities of the 11th Development Program, the Official Statistical Program for the period 2017-2021 Program and Sustainable Development Goals. After signing of the MoU, a Rolling Working Plan (RWP) elaborating the implementation of the activities within a certain schedule in accordance with the content of the MoU has been jointly prepared and signed by the parties on 19 June 2020.
With the RWP, it is aimed to contribute to better monitoring of the situation of children in Turkey and to strengthen the role of statistics in advocating children's rights. The Plan also aims to improve the capacity of TurkStat in order to produce and present more comprehensive statistical data, especially on children's rights, and to enhance statistical literacy for these data.
Within the scope of the cooperation, Mr. Philippe Duamelle, UNICEF Representative to Turkey, paid a visit to Mr. Muhammed Cahit Şirin, President of TurkStat, at his office on 9 September 2020 so as to evaluate cooperation activities being carried out jointly and to review latest situation of the cooperation. After the exchange of views between the parties during the meeting, TurkStat expressed its contentment of being part of such an important collaboration that will improve monitoring of the situation of children in Turkey, contribute to the regional and global statistics on children and further strengthen the role of the statistics in advocating children's rights.
