Concepts and Definitions

Exports: Resident persons and institutions in one country sell goods to other countries.

Imports: Resident persons and institutions in one country buy goods to other countries.

Foreign trade: Broadly, international goods and services are shopping.

Commodity code: Exports and imports of many goods are realized. A standard description of the same type of items needs to be made in the statistics. For this reason, codes have been developed that describe the commodities. The definition of goods in our country is made by the World Customs Organization (WCO) in 1988 according to the "Harmonized System". The first 2 digits of these codes are called chapter, the first 4 digits are called tariff 4. The first 6 digits are tariff 6 (HS code), With the addition of digit 7 and 8, tariff 8 is formed and adapted to the CN codes used in EU countries. The last 4 digits are the national codes added by Turkey.

Country: In the statistics of foreign trade, the country refers to the country of origin of the goods in import, the last country known to be going to the goods in export.

Quantity: It refers to the amount of goods exported or imported. Different measurement units are used according to properties of goods. With a system established in 1996, the net weights of the goods subject to external trade (the weight of the goods excluding packaging material) are generally recorded in the statistics in kilograms, If the supplementary unit of measure is specified in the Turkish Customs Tariff Schedule in addition to the kilogram, the amount of the goods is also monitored according to the specified unit of measure.

Value : FOB in exports, CIF in imports
